We recommend kicking off the walking tour in front of the Roman Agora. Take some time to soak in the sight of the Tower of the Winds and notice how well-preserved this structure is. Constructed in the last century BC by the architect Andronikos this tower once housed a water clock, a sundial and a wind vane shaped like Triton perched on its top. A true feat in sophisticated weather prediction.
Over the centuries it has served as a bell-tower for a Byzantine church as well as a monastery during Ottoman rule. It was partly buried for a long period of time until finally being unearthed during excavations in the year 1845.
