Not even one chip lost
The treasury
Silversmithing has been in Ioannina since the Byzantine times. During the Ottoman rule, it is not lost, it is booming instead. The silver is supplied by the craftsmen from Mantemochoria of Chalkidiki, from abroad, from Odessa or from Italy, sometimes even from melting old objects. The gold is used very little and it is not distinguished from silver. Gold is “golden” for them (yellow gold), while silver is white gold. But whatever he calls it, the material is precious to the silversmith. In his workshop, he works sat on the floor. On top of that, he has laid a rug or a cloth so that he does not lose even one metal chip between the floorboards.
