This is not a Conquest!
Fethiye Mosque
One of the lords of the Despotate of Ioannina asks, in 1430 A.D., the sultan to work together to rise to power. The sultan, Murad II, immediately sends an army for a siege. But first, he gives a decree to the people of Ioannina: if they deliver the city and bow down to him, all this will be avoided. The people of Ioannina and their rulers accept and so, bloodless, the surrender of Ioannina is signed. The lives of the inhabitants change for the better, since they gain privileges after "bowing". The newcomer Turks build a rough wooden mosque in the Castle and call it Fethiye, which means"of the Conquest", although it was not even close to a conquest.
