Memories
Trikoupis Museum
Spyridon Trikoupis occupied several administrative and diplomatic posts during the Greek War of Independence. He delivered the funeral oration for Lord Byron, and became the first Prime Minister of Greece in 1833. He had grown up in the Trikoupis house, but moved away to pursue his professional career. In July 1832 his son Charilaos was born in Nafplio. Charilaos spent his youth in various Greek and European cities, where his father entertained him with stories about his own childhood in Missolonghi; happy memories intermingled with the hardship of the sieges. Charilaos was enchanted, but it took politics to enable him to return to his ancestral home.
