Palamas house
Panagiotis Palamas (1722-1802) was born in Missolonghi and received his education at a local school. He also studied in Ioannina and Constantinople, and taught at the Athonite Academy in Mount Athos. When he failed to become the director of the Academy, he returned to Missolonghi, and became director of the local school, that came to be known as the Palamaia. Panagiotis had four sons who excelled in the field of education: of them, Grigorios became director of the Palamaia School in the early 19th century, while Ioannis became a teacher in Athens, in Constantinople, and in Odessa. Ioannis had two sons; Michael, who became a lawyer, and Dimitrios, who also became a director of the Palamaia School and resided in the family home.
