The Palamaia School
Palamas house
In the Palamaia School, Panagiotis taught grammar and provided his brightest students with an introduction to the fundamentals of philosophy. He also instilled them with a sense of patriotism. The school was housed in his residence and attracted students from a wide area. Panagiotis retired in 1800 and died soon after, but Grigorios, his son, proved equal to the task and continued his father’s efforts until 1821. The School ceased its operation during the Greek War of Independence, while Grigorios died from the hardships of the 1824 siege, even though he was still fairly young. The School reopened in 1829 and was incorporated in the Greek educational system as a high school in 1846.
