The face of wrath
Temple of Diona
There are two temples of Dione. The first was located north of the Sacred Residence and was about half as big as the temple of Zeus. It was abandoned after it was destroyed by the Aetolians in 219 BCE. The second temple was erected a bit to the south and diverges visibly from that of her consort. At the far end of the building stands the pedestal that supported the statue of Dione. The Athenians had consulted the oracle and were told to decorate the statue of the goddess. They made a beautiful face for her, as well as expensive trappings; this infuriated Olympias, the mother of Alexander the Great, who considered Dodona her country and disapproved of the Athenians meddling in its affairs.
