A revolution begins
Evinos
Dimitris Makris was entrusted by the Ottoman authorities with the safety of the wider region of the river Evinos. Unbeknownst to them, though, Makris had also joined the Filiki Eteria, the secret society working for the liberation of Greece. In the spring of 1821 the revolution was only a matter of time. Makris learned that a military detachment would carry the tax revenue of Missolonghi to Nafpaktos, so he decided to attack them and secure the money for the coming revolutionary struggle. On March 5th, he ambushed the Ottomans near Evinos and killed them all; a sole survivor managed to return to Missolonghi. Makris deposited the money to a revolutionary fund, while the Turks realized that they had a revolution on their hands.
