Through her creative practice, artist Anita Xanthou attempts to capture the cosmic state and the energy fields in space. The main feature of her work is movement, since she supports Heraclitus' theory that nothing stays fixed. As in all her works, so in “Untitled” (2004) she utilizes the primary energy sources such as water, light and wind, which provide her with the raw material for her to start the imaginary exploration of their properties and the natural laws governing them. Using simple everyday objects such as glasses with water (here), she creates environments by placing those behind paper surfaces. Through the projection of light, reflections are transformed into magnified shadows and papers are transformed into screens, creating a purely visual pictorial effect. Besides, for Xanthou, art is a broad field of knowledge acquired through an empirical relationship with the wealth of information inherent in nature.
