Thanasis from Pramanta
Pramanta | The wrath of the sultan
Eventually, though, the Ottoman army pushed the men of Bakolas back and burned Pramanta before proceeding to destroy the neighbouring village of Melissourgoi. A man called Thanasis used a Bible to record his memories of these dramatic events: “Today, a large Turkish army came from Kalarites and entered from down below and burned our village; 150 houses and they stole our livelihood and the klephts left us high up on the mountain and left and they chased the Turks with our help. Gogos turned the Turkish army around without them keeping any of our homes or possessions...this is what they called a revolution against the Sultan. I, Thanasis from Pramanta, 1821”.
