As soon as Ali Pasha conquered Preveza, he turned the town into a vast construction site under the supervision of a Christian from Korçë named Petros. It seems, though, that Ali Pasha did not cover the architect’s expenses. An English traveller who visited Preveza in July 1805, was accompanied by “master Petros from Korçë” and writes that “he has not received a single penny (...) even though he is always occupied with the supervision of the construction of several forts and palaces for the vizier and his sons. His fortune and his family are in Korçë, and he is only allowed to visit them occasionally and only for a few days after special permission from the Pasha”.
