A group of strange ruins survive on a commanding position near the walls of early Christian Nicopolis. They are known by many names (Royal House, Old Castle, The Cisterns, The Barrells) given to them by visitors who come here in the 18th and 19th century to drink water from the spring at the foot of the hill. The excavations began in 1913 and continue to the present day. They proved that the ruins belong to a massive private residence that extends over numerous levels on the hill. The researchers have brought to light more than 3400 square meters but this is only part of the entire complex.
