This impressive discovery was occupied from the second half of the 1st century to the early 7th century. Many owners passed through its doors, walked among the plants in the garden, and worked in its spacious rooms; but thanks to an inscription on a mosaic floor we know the name of one of them: ekdikos Georgios. An ekdikos was an office established in the second half of the 4th century; he was responsible for safeguarding the common people from the arbitrary behaviour of the powerful. He registered the complaints of the people and represented them before the authorities, whether the emperor or the provincial governor. Ekdikos Georgios, the owner of this impressive mansion, was a Roman citizens’ advocate.
