Everything for the audience
The Odeum
The architect(s) of the Odeum took great care of their creation. They were particularly mindful of the audience and designed a complex system of entry and exit to prevent overcrowding and inconveniences. There are three paved passages that lead to the orchestra i.e. the section in front of the seats. The two side passages (parodoi) were vaulted. Through the orchestra the audience reached their seats using the staircases of the auditorium. There were also two exterior staircases that allowed members of the audience to access the upper part of the seating area. Two additional staircases on either side of the paraskenia led to the upper floor of the stage building.
