The Odeum
As the centuries went by, the Roman and Byzantine Nicopolis turned into a pile of ruins, and the Odeum is no exception. Up until the middle of the 20th century the largest part of the building remained hidden underground. The process of repairing the damage done by time was time-consuming but brought to light many missing pieces. They also revealed other interesting aspects of the building’s history as, for example, burials that were dated to the 5th century, a testament to the presence and activities of people in the immediate neighbourhood of the Odeum after it was abandoned. The long process of restoration was completed in 2015. Since then the Odeum of Nicopolis proudly stands once more, a reborn monument ready to welcome artists and events of our own era.
