The hut in the book
Kazantzakis' hut
"We had installed a shack by the sea with reeds, wicker and oil cans…" (pg. 70) "He took an armful of wood, went out, skillfully placed them between two hearthstones and lit a fire. He placed the ceramic pot on it, filled it with water and added onions, tomatoes and rice and began cooking." (pg. 91) "I am sitting in the shack, looking at the world blur and the sea glisten a greyish green. From one side of the shore to the other, there's no person, no sail, nor bird. The only thing entering from the open window is the smell of soil." (pg. 115)
