The locals remember
Kazantzakis' hut
Panagiotis Exarchouleas, son of Andreas, narrates: "I was eight years old when Kazantzakis was here. Us kids were peering in the shack and I was impressed by the wicker chair with the holes that was in front of his desk. He was wearing pajamas. We had never seen pajamas before. We thought they were breeches and we laughed at him calling him "breeches-man". Testimony of Katerina Exarchoulea, daughter of Andreas: Do you want me to sweep your room, Mr. Nikos? No need, Katerina. Do you want me to make you striftadia (handmade pasta)? No, I still have lentils. Another time, it was drizzly and he was strolling alone in the sand. -Hurry up, Mr. Nikos - I tell him - you'll be soaked. - It does not matter, Katerina. I enjoy the rain.
