Leaving Kalogria, Zorbas housed his family in Kalamata and he went to work at the alcohol factory "Zan & Ros", and then at a silver mine in Velika. In 1919, he departed along with N. Kazantzakis for Caucausus, aiming to repatriate 150.000 Greeks. This task was assigned to N. Kazantzakis as he was the General Manager of the newly established Ministry of Welfare. When he returned, he married his daughter Androniki to the immigrant Kostas Kehaef (Kehagia), who was known in Kalamata as an excellent photographer. He immortalized many of the people and the places of this story.
