Montelbaan Tower
Rembrandthuis Museum
We are now in front of the Rembrandt House Museum. But, turn around from it first, and look at the Montelbaan Tower in a distance. The tower was a part of Amsterdam’s old defensive wall. It was built in 1512 and the spire was added in 1606, designed by a famous Amsterdam’s architect Hendrik de Keyser (the same one who built the Zuidkerk). In 1644 or 1645, Rembrandt stood on this very place and has made a drawing of the tower. However, in his drawing Rembrandt hasn't shown the decorative spire, at all. If you have a pen and a paper, it could be nice to step into Rembrandt's shoes for a moment, and sketch the tower yourself.
