The stainless steel, hydrokinetic sculpture Umbrellas, initially created in 1993, includes 45 water-powered umbrellas and was first presented at the Venice Biennale representing Greece. In 1995, it won the first prize at the competition held for the installation of artworks at the Justus Lipsius building, seat of the Council of the EU in Brussels, and was installed at its VIP entrance, the Cour d' Honneur Atrium. Accessible from Froissart Street, from where all member-nation leaders enter the building and often pose in front of the sculpture for their pictures to be taken, the Umbrellas have become a landmark featuring daily in global media. It is even more impressive when oscillating with water, since it is visible to passers-by.
