A symbol of old Rome
The Comitium and the Curia
The Comitium was the first place where the Romans gathered to discuss law, justice, and politics from as early as the 7th century BC. The square was sacred to the gods, decorated with statues and probably when political discussions weren’t happening, it also served as a place for gladiator games. Its seating structure inspired that of the amphitheater, so common throughout the Roman world.
