The blond boy
The Blond Boy
The Blond Boy is a youth made of Parian marble. He owes his name to the light red paint that still colored his hair when he was discovered. It is a typical example of the Severe Style, a new style that defines the transition from Archaic to Classical art. The Archaic smile is replaced by an austere look. The heavy jaw, full lips, and heavy lids surrounding the eyes contribute to a serious expression, which has long been considered the result of the Persian Wars and the destruction of Athens in 480 BCE. The Blond Boy has the most amazing hairstyle; his long hair forms two braids that cross on the nape of the neck and disappear beneath the curls of his forehead. The naked torso with the thighs (Acr. 6478) nearby also belongs to this statue.
