Piazza Venezia
Piazza Venezia is the massive, oval-shaped square that opens up in front of the Altar of the Fatherland. Five of Rome’s main streets converge in Piazza Venezia. Facing the square, with your back to the Vittoriano monument, you’ll have Via dei Fori Imperiali on your right, the street leading to the Colosseum and Via del Teatro di Marcello, on your left, which leads to the Theatre of Marcellus. Three more streets meet on the other side of the square— Via Cesare Battisti, on the right, leading all the way up to Piazza della Republica, Via del Corso, in the middle, which is one of the capital’s most famous historic streets, well-known for its high-end boutiques, and Corso Vittorio on the left.
