Andrikaina’s Inn
The entrance plates
A story mentions that a Cretan shepherd, Andrikos Mourmouris, lost his ram, a bellwether, and was looking for it. The ram, full on thick grass, was lying in the large shade of a plane tree where burbling water was running. Andrikos, fascinated by the beauty of the landscape, decided to settle there. Near the plane tree, he built his Inn for travelers from Karytaina and Ayialeni to the castle of Zakouka. When he died and his beautiful wife became a widow, the site became known as Andrikaina’s Inn, and by corruption, the Inn was named: Andritsaina. Over time, many residents from surrounding areas came and built settlements around it.
