“I do not own silver and gold”
Nikolopoulos’s Letter
In a letter to his compatriots, Nikolopoulos divulges the impending donation of his library to the municipality of Andritsaina. Making a brief assessment of his 30-year stay in Paris, he expresses a desire to move to his place of origin and live there until the end of his life. Using the words of the Apostle, he states that he does not have gold and silver but offers what he has, that is, the books he has acquired with great effort and hardship. His intention was to set up a school to educate children and improve their knowledge of commerce and agricultural craft, thus establishing an Academy for the well-being of not only Andritsaina but the whole of Peloponnese. Finally, he asks for the help of 2 trusted men who will go to Paris to pick up the books.
