The Holy Book
The Holy Bible, Antwerp 1657
The Bible consists of the sum of the books of the Old and New Testaments. It is considered to be the most commercially available book of all time, with an estimated 6 billion copies translated into more than 2,400 languages. It is one of the first books to be printed in printing houses in Italy, as well as in central and northern Europe. The Library of Andritsaina hosts rare editions, such as the Dutch one, printed in Antwerp in 1657. This is a leather bound edition with an engraving on the cover, testifying to its elaborate craftsmanship and the high price it would have cost anyone wishing to obtain it.
