Victory Odes
Pindar, Rome 1515
The book is a 1515 edition and is one of the oldest artifacts in the collection. It is leather-bound and decorated with an impressed rim frame and figures from the Old and New Testaments. This edition is a reprint of an earlier version of 1513 by Aldo Manuzio and is enriched with commentaries by Zacharia Kallergis. It is of great importance, as it is the first Greek book published in Rome in collaboration with Cornelio Benigni. The title page mentions the name of Pindar, the typographical marks of the collaborators, and the name of Papa Leone I, who granted the privilege of the exclusive edition.
