The Conservation Laboratory
The Pencil
One would hardly expect to find a conservation laboratory in a regional library, however, in the case of the Historical Library of Andritsaina, after a donation by the two sister associations in 2004, there is a laboratory on the 1st floor for the conservation of 16th-century historical volumes. Careful preservation is necessary as these books have particularities in their binding that aren’t encountered in the following centuries. That is why they are important cultural heritage objects, and any interference with them must be conducted with the most up-to-date scientific methods so that these fragile and rare treasures can be safely passed on to future generations. The Swiss association exclusively funds the program of the preservation of the historical books of the Nikolopoulos Collection by a specialized curator.
